Master in Design for Self-sufficiency

100 ECTS CREDITS

12-MONTH PROGRAM

The Master of Design for Self-sufficiency is a four term program developed at IaaC’s Valldaura Self Sufficient Labs campus, in the heart of Collserola Metropolitan Park. The program, based on the principle of “learning by doing”, aims to teach the basis on how to design and build a self-sustaining habitat from advanced manufacturing techniques and production.

Students will learn to rethink and produce in a wide range of scales, prototyping simple daily-life objects out of local materials and self-generated energy, to collaboratively produce permanent environmental structures such as warehouses, wood-dryers, green-houses and other elements that promote the conservation and wise use of the territory.

The program will literally follow the four seasons, accompanying the courses and workshops related to the design and manufacture with natural processes: natural environmental cycles, sustainable forest management, planting and harvesting according to permaculture techniques, making this one life experience crucial in their training experience as designers.

The program is open to architects, engineers, biologists, designers, artists and graduates who seek to develop their ability as designers towards a holistic view of the human habitat.
